Where’s your content? What’s your excuse?

Have you been asked the same question more than once in your business?  I’d be surprised if you haven’t.  It could be any question about your business, it could be about your products, services or just simply – how does this work?  Now the point of this is that you are asked these questions because they know you have the knowledge to provide them with the answer.  If you didn’t clearly you wouldn’t be doing your job properly.

Content

Well here’s the thing.  Just a simple communication like this is “content”.  And I think that this is where business owners are not realising their potential.

Here’s why

Every day businesses have conversations with new and existing clients about their products and services and how they can help and support them in their quest to resolve whatever problem the client is currently facing.

So do you catch yourself using the same phrases.  Or maybe you have learnt your conversation off by heart?  Do you get bored of hearing your own voice?
So the answer would be to

  • write down this conversation,
  • write down the answers to your questions
  • write down ALL the information you keep getting asked about your products or services.

How hard can it be?

I think our job now as marketers is to educate.  Business owners, I’m finding, are not understanding how to communicate via the web and social media and make the most of these digital marketing tools available to them.

I find myself chasing clients a lot for information to put onto their website.  The response I get is:

  • I’ve been really busy
  • I’ll get round to it tomorrow
  • I’m working on it
  • I’m waiting for my colleague

Really?  Why is this not a priority?  I can only assume because getting all this information together is not dealing with fee-paying customers and therefore not important!  Which actually couldn’t be any further from the truth.

By gathering up and spending time on putting the right content together (and if you don’t have the writing skills, just ask, there are plenty of good people that can help) not only shows every visitor to your website that you are skilled and knowledgeable in what you do, but also you may find that as a result of this that you will have more time on your hands to do the important things like grow your business.

What are you waiting for?

Times have changed, and communicating on the web and social media is no longer an option if you want grow your business.

What’s your experience?  Do you agree?  I would love to hear your views.
